Millikan Computer Technologies Newsletter

Fall 2007 Newsletter

We’ve Added Staff
MCT is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Cooney to our staff!!

Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in computer systems to Millikan Computer Technologies, having built and rebuilt his own systems over the past several years. Michael also brings added training skills to MCT. With a vast working knowledge of both Windows and Mac personal computers, as well as training experience in both hardware and software, Michael is a welcome addition to our staff.

Michael’s most recent work has been in the offices of an Ophthalmology practice on the North Shore. In his last position with the practice he served as the Surgical Coordinator, ensuring a smooth, and as pleasant as possible, experience for patients preparing to undergo cataract surgery.

With the addition of Michael to our staff, MCT is even more prepared to handle your every computing need! Whether you are looking for help understanding why or how your PC behaves as it does, help selecting a new computer, need your old system fine tuned, just need normal maintenance done, need help with software issues or help resurrecting a dead computer, Millikan Computer Technologies is the place to call.

MAC vs. PC
I have been telling people for some time now that if a brand new user of technology asks me which computer to buy, my surprise answer is often MAC. Although with the price differential once again heavily favoring the PC, I find it harder to continue with the MAC recommendation. One person I never expected to use a MAC, let alone somewhat endorse the MAC, was John Dvorak of PC Magazine. He is a curmudgeonly sort and I dearly love his articles. Check out his experience in the MAC world by clicking here.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 now in beta testing
As we all anticipated, Microsoft is moving quickly to remedy the issues found in Vista in its wide release earlier this year. The beta version of Vista SP1 is now being put through its paces and hopefully will be available in the late winter, early spring time frame. In the meantime, here is a review of the service pack from PC Magazine. please click here

Broadband Phone, or VoIP, comes of age
OK, so this is one technology that has yet to enter the Millikan household. I am almost ashamed to admit that, but there it is. And now there is no excuse not to give up that old POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line. All you need is a broadband connection, such as DSL or Cable. Read about some of the quality services available and then call us if you need help making the connection by clicking here.

Lavasoft Ad Aware introduces new 2007 version
Some of you may have noticed a new look to the venerable anti-spyware program that MCT has recommended for some time. That new look is the 2007 version. For all of you still using Ad Aware SE Personal version: keep using and enjoying. That SE Personal version still updates and still provides all the protection you will ever need. But those of you just now downloading Ad Aware will get the new 2007 version. The look and feel is a little different, but the quality and service is still just as reliable. If you have any issues getting the 2007 version to install and/or work properly, just call. We will be glad to help.

Sincerely,

Jim Millikan
